Mr Trump knows what he is doing. Only a no-deal Brexit would deliver a Britain desperate enough to agree to that. America First works best when other countries also go it alone. At which point Mr Trump can dictate the terms.

I am always amazed, by the Brexiters, who think that Small Britain could have a leverage in trade negotiations anywhere, when giving up the European lever. Within the EU they are (were) in a strong position and by finding agreement with the EU use that power globally, without the EU it's a small island (and a chaotic corner on another island and associated with a small corner next to Spain, where that corner is dependent on the EU)
